City of Dallas Air Pollution Control

Welcome to the City of Dallas Air Pollution Control Program

The Air Pollution Control Program has been a vital part of the City’s services to its citizens since the latter part of the 1960s. It has operated as a part of the Environmental and Health Services Department at its present location since the department was formed.

This program was instrumental in developing many of the modern methods, procedures and techniques that have become standards used by sampling and analysis laboratories throughout the U.S. today. The program is supported by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

The State has delegated the air program authority for compliance assessment, ambient air monitoring responsibilities, and enforcement powers within the City limits for the State’s Air Pollution Control Rules and Regulations. The program accomplishes this in many ways, including:

  • operating a network of ambient air monitors that measure the quality of the air that we breathe;
  • inspecting industrial facilities, gas stations and used car lots
  • investigating pollution control equipment
  • investigating complaints from citizens concerning smoke, dust, fumes, and odors which may create nuisance conditions
  • reviewing and making recommendations to the State concerning proposed new facilities or modifications to existing facility operations
  • working closely with other political groups and environmental agencies to develop the State Implementation Plan (SIP) for attaining the National Ambient Air Quality Standard for ozone.

Get the current ozone levels for North Texas (blue box at left) every day of the week.
